Despite the over-whelming urge to stay indoor and avoid the sticky feeling of Taipei summer, I pushed thru with my plans and visited the sea-side town of Tamsui.

There are number of reason why Tamsui is often included as a must do day trip out of central Taipei. Apart from the easy access via MRT,to summarize, the main tourist draw of Tamsui is the view of the river, the mountain ranges from afar and if you are lucky, maybe a spot under a shade of tree for some quiet time.

The pedestrian shopping area by the riverbank known as the Old Street(Gongming Street) is usually the most crowded part of Tamsui. As the name suggest, the buildings along the street are preserved infrastructure, with some of them dating back the Spanish-Dutch colonial era. Nowadays, the Old street is a popular place to samples Taiwanese sweets and snacks.
